And We're Back!

Wow, holy blog silence, right? I have a feeling I'll have more time for this now- being that I'm unemployed. Voluntarily.
Let me take you a step back: I quit the day job I've had these last 5 1/2 years so that I can go back to school. I know people can handle school and a job simultaneously and while it would have been hard I could have done it. I might not have liked it but I could have done it. What I couldn't deal with though was the feeling that I wasn't doing anything I was passionate about. I wasn't using enough of my strengths in my day to day routine. This left me feeling drained at the end of the day. Honestly I had felt that way for a long time but didn't know what to do. I loved the people I worked with. The leadership was amazing. Benefits and hours were great. Yet, my heart wasn't in it. It was just a job.
So fast forward through to these last two weeks where it's just been me and the cats playing house. I start school in May. I'm looking at graphic design/brand consulting. I'm really excited and very blessed that I have the opportunity to do this.
Whew! With all of that out there now let's take a look at what I have also been doing... you know besides entertaining the cats and cleaning the house and finding any excuse to get OUT of the house.

-Polyvore contests. I LOVE project decorate.
I have been having a lot of fun though submitting entries for Mimosa Lane- her style is awesome. Hopefully my interpretation does it justice.

Wintry Mix aka I Can't Feel My Fingers

Well, I really didn't mean to go so long without posting! I feel like I've been semi-hibernating. It's so hard to be motivated when most of your energy is being spent keeping warm. I do have some simple and quick little projects I want to show off but I need to photograph them first which seems to be the tricky part. And really these projects were such no-brainers that it's a little ridiculous that photographing them is the hardest part!

I was off the day job today for some not fun reasons but I did manage to take some time and play on polyvore. I didn't create all of these today but these are some of my favorites plus together they kind of tell a story.

Thoughts

I was going through my etsy wish list last week, which of course lead me down rabbit holes to more items I love leading to what can only be described as a "favoriting fest". I started noticing a color trend with the items I was favoriting: corals, pinks, and some magenta. Then I checked my email and found out that Rue’s color of the month is blush and while my items weren't all blush/pink items, they were in the same family which got me thinking about color trends. Do they run forecasts to get people used to the colors they’ll be seeing that year?
Example- Pantone announces orchid as the color of the year and I am less than impressed. My gut reaction to purple is not love at first sight. But as I see more items pop up in that tonal family I start to think “oh, that’s not so bad.” In fact, as I look at various pins of mine and things I’ve painted I start to realize wow, I don’t totally hate it. In fact, it’s pinned more than other colors that I say I  like!
When I worked at a fabric store (ohmy gosh, a lot longer ago than I thought!) I could almost predict what was going to be popular color wise. Further confirming that I might have been a hipster before that was even a thing (is that meta?)
Now maybe this is where manufacturers and designers come in to play.  But what I don't understand is how they get the color palette before we do. Maybe it all is a marketing game and I am just naive. On another train of thought, now that I am more active in polyvore and olioboard I don't find myself saying "ugh, if only they made this" anymore. I do however say quite often "why don't they make that for my budget?!"
So many thoughts... why don't we just look at what came to be the etsy treasury list I made instead:

'Stop it, I'm blushing!'

And the Rest They Say is History

How does one begin their first post? Jump right in? Is an introduction in order, almost like a novel? Or is it more like a ritual where you state your intent, or am I getting confused with business meetings?
Perhaps I can find comfort in the knowledge that hardly anyone will see this so that gives me permission to just run free. I really didn’t think I’d ever start a blog but for some reason I feel that now it’s a necessity. I want an online home. I want to connect with others and have a chance to “invite them over” so to speak.  Home is a big concept to me, encompassing idealization and it's best friend frustration, but also offering a wealth of humor and comfort. I'm sure this blog will have it's fair share of those things as well.
    As my profile states:
-I am an obsessive curator. I guess that is a nice way to say I am a hoarder. However, to contrast that I am also a ruthless editor. Yes, I much prefer the label of curator.
-The typical analogy of a magpie applies to me- can’t pass up some good sparkle!
- I am indeed a funky dancer. I love music and sing loudly and dance appreciatively. I have danced in a grocery store on more than one occasion but mostly that is to make my husband smile.

Other things not covered: I'm an interior design enthusiast as easily seen by my pinterest page or the list of blogs I follow. To say I'm a visual person is an understatement. I get caught up in visual details, scintillated by colors and textures. I feel awkward calling myself artistic but I do like to paint and make collages. In fact I think one may be coming up shortly...

So with that... Welcome! Come on in and don’t mind the cat hair and don’t get me started about the state of the living room, there will be plenty of time to talk about that later. : )
